3 things to do in Korea

Why is time passing by so fast!

It’s already my 2nd month in Korea and I have 3 more months here before going home! And it’s not as though the workload in PNU is crazily tough but I am wondering where had all my free time went to? Did I spend too much time traveling? Or sleeping? Or maybe drinking……….. cough cough.

Gonna talk about three of the must do things (my personal opinion!) in Korea! One of which is really common but I thought the other two was a little bit unusual!

1. Do something to your hair. Perm, dye, cut! Whatever!
This was one of thing I really want to do in Korea and yes, one item ticked on my “KR BUCKET LIST”! I even set aside some of my expenses just for my hair itself. I did lots of research to which hair salon I should visit and apparently, all of the good/affordable salons are located in Edae. But since I didn’t visit that area (I was mainly at Gyeonggi-do before heading to Busan), I decided to do my hair ay Gyeonggi-do instead!

Well, and I thought it would be cheaper since it’s the suburbs of Seoul. I visited Lee Ka Ja Hair Bis located in Beomgye (Subway Line 1) and only realized it was a franchise after leaving the salon! I also see them all over in Busan -_-. So much for thinking that it might be cheaper…

But I still think the price I paid was still pretty reasonable!

Cut + Dye (including my eyebrows!) + Treat + Perm = 190,000 KRW.

Which equates to about SGD$220 back then. Quite okay right? I think they actually gave me discount because I was a student? And I asked my friends around and they said it was reasonable!

Exit 2 of Beomgye Station. Walk straight up.

The salon is on your left!

Some huge hair machine behind me!

My hair is still looking okay after 2 months!

2. Get a pair of glasses!
My room mate was telling me how cheap it is to make glasses in Korea.. And so I decided to check it out! There’s an optician just outside PNU. Super convenient! Reminds me of Ngee Ann where there is also an optician in the school campus!

There was a 30% discount in the first few weeks of school and the discount just made everything so much more affordable.

Frames starts from $10,000. Very cheap in my opinion because I can never find such cheap frames in Singapore. As for the lenses, it’s about the same as Singapore. My degree is really high (right 600, left 550) so there is no way I can get the cheap lenses. Ultra thin lenses for me! I remembered paying $80,000 for the lenses itself.

So in total, my glasses cost me $90,000. But thanks to the 30%, I only paid $63,000! What a steal!! Hope they have another 30% before I leave Busan. I really want another pair of glasses!

Leopard prints. How tacky hohoho.

3. Have your passport photo taken!
Yup, that’s right. You might be wondering how special a passport photo could get. But in a country where people are obsessed with beauty, a passport photo can never be that ordinary.

Upon entering the photoshop, I saw an ahjussi touching up the photos using Photoshop. And yes, indeed. All passport photos are guaranteed to be “chio” because the all of them are all photoshopped to perfection. Zits on your face? No problem! I never knew I have such glowing skin and perfect complexion! ^_^

NAYYY. Looking like an idiot but i’m leaving it here just for laughs!

Healthy hair to welcome the New Year!

(Advertorial)

If you were an avid reader of mine (cough cough, raise your hand if you are one!), you might have realize how disgustingly dry my hair has become over the past months. I dye my hair every on average about twice a year and that’s enough to kill my hair already!

Damaged hair makes me depress!

But thankfully, there’s Jean Yip Hair Spa to save the day!

Jean Yip Salon has been around since 1982 so that mean’s they have been around for… THIRTY ONE YEARS! It is probably one of the salon with the longest history in Singapore and they have expanded from a single outlet in Katong Plaza to more than of 60 hairdressing, beauty & slimming outlets today!

Nicole from Jean Yip Group contacted and invited me to try out their 6 Elements Botanicals Hair Therapy. I was able to choose between their two hair spa outlet, Nex or Bedok Mall.

I went ahead and book an appointment at the Nex outlet. Upon arrival, the staff got me to fill up a form so they could understand my hair condition better. The outlet was rather busy so I was left alone for a bit (they kept apologizing though!) before the hair consultant, Chuesy came over and analyze my hair condition.

You know those those TV commercials where they use the “hair scanner” to check the condition of your scalp? That’s the first step she did before proceeding to the actual hair spa. I was told that I have oily scalp and I saw the condition with my own eyes.. It was so damn gross so no pictures here! Chuesy then recommended me to do a detox treatment to get rid of all the dirt and disgusting stuffffffff.

Treatment Room!

She then brought me to the treatment room which was different from what I expected! Normally if I were to do hair treatment in salon, it’s done IN the salon (duh) with those other customers and their different hair service requests! But the Jean Yip Hair Spa Outlet has got a room specially set for hair treatment only!

As you can see from the picture above, the hair spa room is a super dark one and with huge sofa seats and there were also some music playing in the background. The ambience was relaxing and definitely appropriate for a SPA!

The treatment started with a hair wash to cleanse my scalp. After which, the hair therapist applied a super cooling hair mask! I felt as though my hair was going through winter… IT WAS SUPER COOLING.

The part I was looking forward next was the massage! The hair therapist did a shoulder and hand massage while she was waiting for my hair to absorb all the minerals from the hair mask. It was so comfortable I fell asleep. And before I knew, it was time for the 2nd hair wash. *boo-hoo*

No, I’m not going to leave the salon like that!

A mandatory hair blow after the wash and Chuesy went through with me again on my hair scalp condition after the detox treatment! And true enough, my scalp was so much cleaner after the treatment! I can no longer see weird white stuff on my scalp and it was really clean! Not to mention, my hair smells really good too :P.

With my hair therapist of the day, Chuesy!

And I went for my internship orientation the next day with uber silky hair!! -evil laughs- So satisfied! I think I definitely made a better first impression with silky smooth hair instead of the lioness hair! Other than it being silky, it was of course healthier since the dirts are all GONE!

For more information on the Jean Yip Hair Spa 6 Elements Botanicals Spa Therapy, do call 6483 0535 (NEX Outlet) or visit Jean Yip’s Facebook for more details as they are currently running some exciting hair spa deals right now!

Thank you Nicole for coordinating the whole treatment and Jean Yip Salon for the awesome service!

Decked in pink! Etude Pink Play Party!

When I say PINK, you say…

Etude Pink Play Party!

Thank you Cheryl for the awesome photos! ^^

In case you didn’t know, the Fourth Season of Etude Pink Play Party was successfully held in Singapore last night! This is the first time this event has been brought out of South Korea and it surely left a lot of fans going wild during the specially prepared games and performances. Performing guests include Sulli from f(x), Kevin 老师 and the highly anticipated, SHINee!

As the name suggested, the party theme was PINK and fans were told to show their pink spirit by dressing up or wearing accessories in pink. The decorations of the party were not spared as well. Upon entering the hall, I spotted pink balloons, pink walls, pink tents and many many more! Am a huge fan of the theme since my favourite colour is PINK! ♡_♡

Before the performance, fans got to enjoy the beauty party where they have to collect stamps on their beauty passport from the different beauty station before accessing the mosh pit area.

Check out the crowd!

Fans can get their makeup done in this mini makeup booth!

There were also the “Dream Girl Contest” and “Anycushion Contest” where fans could stand a chance to get on stage to greet SHINee and Sulli!

You could either test out the different makeup…

Or take a selca with your favourite oppa ^^

There’s even a water station!!!

Not only did fans get to play games, they were entitled to freebies as well!

Ping Pong Water aka Collagen WaterEnergy Drink!

I also took the chance to paint my nails and touched up my lips at the makeup booth! Love the fact that Etude House’s makeup always smells so good!

Check out the nails corner!

Rosalyn lee from 98.7fm was the host of the night! First up on stage was Kevin 老师. This name should be familiar to many since he is none other than…. The master of make-up from 女人我最大!

Shortly, Rozz introduced Sulli up the stage and that got the crowd spazzing for more!

So pretty!! ^_^

Both Kevin 老师 and Sulli picked up out the winner of the “Anycushion Contest” and winners got a chance to take a picture with Sulli! How lucky!!

After which, Kevin 老师 went back up to do what he gotta do, a LIVE make-up tutorial! I’ve seen him done his magic many times on TV but never once in real life so I was definitely in for a treat! Before Kevin 老师 began his magic, he mentioned that there are 3 key points that a woman should take note of when doing their makeup.

1st: Complexion. A nice complexion goes a long way! :)

2nd: Eyes. Think Cat Eye!

3rd: Lip shape! The more natural it is, the better!

He then proceeded to do a 10 minutes demo. In fact, he only used 7 minutes and he managed to transform a really pretty model into… an even prettier model.

And after much teaser, SHINee finally kickstart the party with their latest single, “Dream Girl”. Although Minho wasn’t able to attend the party due to his filming schedule, he did not leave his fans disappointed. He left a short video and even an autographed Etude House’s product for one lucky fan!

SHINee also took the chance to interact with the fans and mentioned that they are really excited to be able to meet their fans in Singapore. Lucky fans were also picked and invited on stage to collect their Etude House’s hampers from SHINee.

When asked to described their dream girl, the members each have their own preference. Onew likes someone who looks intelligent, Taemin prefer a really active girl, Jonghyun think that confidence is the key (no pun intended) and Key ideal’s type would be someone who look really sweet!

SHINee fans, do you fit any of the above criteria? :D

SHINee continued woo-ing the crowd with their two other songs, “Lucifer” and “Beautiful”.

And of course, three songs were definitely not enough. Rozz got the crowd cheering and shouting for “ENCORE” before the boys came out again and end the night off with “Why So Serious?”

Thank you Etude House for the great hospitality and the lovely party + goodie bag!! I do hope that the next season of Etude Pink Play Party will be held again in Singapore! :D

If you missed out the Etude Pink Play Party, be sure to check out some of the highlights below! Apologies for the slightly shaky footages!
